Paul E. Grimes died on Saturday, July 5th, 2025 at his home surrounded by family.

Visiting will be in the Prout Funeral Home, 370 Bloomfield Avenue, Verona, NJ on Tuesday, July 8th from 4pm to 7pm. A Funeral Mass will be offered in Our Lady of the Lake Church, 28 Lakeside Avenue, Verona on Wednesday, July 9th at 10am.

Paul was born in Providence, RI, grew up in Warwick, RI and lived in Burr Ridge, IL prior to moving to Verona, NJ in 1985. He graduated from Bishop Hendricken High School in Warwick before enrolling at Bryant University in Smithfield, RI, as a marketing major.

Paul grew up on the water in Rhode Island, where his love for the ocean shaped his life. From sailing and boating to fishing, digging quahogs, and enjoying fresh oysters, he found joy in the simple, enduring rhythms of coastal life. He spent cherished time in Narragansett, Jamestown, Newport, and Block Island—places he loved deeply and held close to his heart. The salt air, crashing waves, and quiet harbors were part of his soul, and he carried the spirit of those beloved shores with him always. Even in his later years, he remained devoted to the water and nature, enjoying kayaking and freshwater fishing throughout New Jersey and often on the shores of Cape Cod & Martha's Vineyard. He also found joy on the golf course, where he cherished spending time with family and friends.

Paul served as a Sergeant in the US Army 101st Airborne Division, Screaming Eagles in Vietnam from 1965 to 1967. He was proud to be a member of the Vietnam Veterans. He dedicated significant time and effort to supporting combat veterans, consistently advocating for their well-being and working to ensure they receive the respect, resources, and opportunities they deserve.

Paul began his career at WPRI in Providence, followed by WSBK in Boston, and Storer Broadcasting in Manhattan, where he laid the foundation for a successful career in the early years of his professional life. He went on to have a distinguished career, working for 16 years as Vice President of Sales at Harrington Righter & Parsons (HRP) in both New York City and Chicago. Later, he joined Bloomberg Financial News' Ad Sales team until his retirement in 2012.

Paul was a parishioner at Our Lady of the Lake Church, where he previously served as a Eucharistic Minister. He was also involved with the Youth Board at the Danny O'Callaghan Center and was a former member of the Rhode Island Jaycees.

Paul was a long time member of the Verona Lions Club, serving as Club President and the chair of the Hospital Equipment Loan Program. He was recognized with the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award for his service in the Lions Club and the community.

Paul's love for sports was evident in his unwavering loyalty to the Boston Red Sox, New Jersey Devils, New York Giants, and Notre Dame Football. Whether cheering for a win or supporting through a loss, he was always devoted to his teams.

Paul is survived by his wife, Elizabeth M. Grimes; his children, Christina Myers ( William Myers), Colleen Grimes (Lario Arruda), Patrick Grimes, Matthew Grimes (Jesse), Daniel Grimes (Romina); his siblings, Patricia A. Cimini & John W. Grimes; his grandchildren, Brittany, Jordan, Eloise, Henry, and Madison; his great-grandchildren, Lilliana, Kylar, Jaiden, Mackenzie and Juliana; as well as many surviving cousins on both the Grimes and Perkins sides of the family.
