Patricia R. Sutherlin

Mrs. Patricia R. Sutherlin, 93, passed away peacefully at her home in Verona on Monday, February 2, 2026.

Graveside services will be held at Maplewood Cemetery, 169 West Main Street, Freehold, New Jersey, on Thursday, February 5, at 11:00 a.m.
A reception for friends will be held at the Sutherlin residence in West Caldwell on Thursday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Born in New York City, Patricia grew up in Freehold, New Jersey, and lived in Cedar Grove for 52 years before moving to Verona.

She was a graduate of Freehold High School and the Mills College of Education (Bank Street College of Education) in New York City. Patricia taught at the Leonard R. Parks School in Cedar Grove before dedicating herself to raising her family.

Patricia deeply loved and cherished time spent with her family. Some of her fondest memories were made during summer vacations at the shore with her children and grandchildren. She also had a passion for gardening and spent many happy hours tending to her backyard garden.

Patricia was a staple to most residents at the Verona Pool, having been a long time member of the pool. Patricia made her rounds as the familiar, happy face at Washington School in West Caldwell as the weekly reader in the 2nd grade class.

Patricia was predeceased by her husband, Richard Lee Sutherlin; her son, Richard Lee Sutherlin, Jr.; and her grandson, Richard Lawrence Sutherlin.

She is survived by her children, Jeffrey Scott Sutherlin and his wife Rosemarie, Sheree Ann Siegel and her husband Larry “Doc” Siegel; her grandchildren, Samantha Ann O’Neill and her husband Paul, Lee Thomas Sutherlin, Shane Michael Siegel, and Matthew Robert Siegel; and her great-grandchildren, Olivia Ann O’Neill and Paul Jeffrey O’Neill.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Patricia’s name may be made to the Verona Rescue Squad, 12 Church Street, Verona, NJ 07044.
