Sr. Mary Kathleen Malarky, O.P. Obituary (1921 - 2012)

Sr. Mary Kathleen Malarky, O.P. died on Saturday, March 3, 2012 at St. Catherine Healthcare Center in Caldwell. She was 90. A Funeral Mass will be offered in St. Catherine of Siena Convent Chapel, 7 Ryerson Avenue (Mt. St. Dominic) Caldwell on Wednesday, March 7 at 10AM. Visiting at St. Catherine Convent, Caldwell on Tuesday 2-4 & 6-8 PM. Sister Mary Kathleen was born in Stratford, CT, entered the Dominican Sisters of Caldwell on February 2, 1941 and professed vows on August 24, 1942. Sister graduated from Mt. St. Dominic Academy in Caldwell and has a Bachelor's degree in English from Caldwell College. Sister Mary Kathleen taught Kindergarten or grade school at St. John School in Jersey City, St. John the Apostle School in Clark, Blessed Sacrament School in Bridgeport, CT, St. Elizabeth School in Linden and Sacred Heart School in Lyndhurst. She returned to Blessed Sacrament School in Bridgeport and served as Principal and Superior from 1968-1974 and served as Superior of St. John the Apostle Convent in Clark from 1981-1983. Sister Mary Kathleen was the Director of the Small Blessings Day Care Program at Sacred Heart School in Lyndhurst from 1983 to 2003. She is the sister of the late James Malarky and is survived by her nephew Timothy Malarky, her niece Noreen Malarky and her cousin Jacqueline Young.
