Sr. Catherine M. Daly, OP, 80, (formerly Sr. Coleen) died on Monday, August 8, 2016 in St. Catherine of Siena Healthcare Center in Caldwell, NJ. A Funeral Mass will be offered in St. Catherine of Siena Convent Chapel, 7 Ryerson Avenue, (Mt. St. Dominic) Caldwell on Monday, August 15 at 10:30 am. Visiting in St. Catherine of Siena Convent on Sunday from 2- 7 pm. The Office for the Dead will be on Sunday at 4pm. Born in Jersey City, Sister entered the Dominican Sisters of Caldwell on August 22, 1953 and professed vows on June 28, 1955. Sr. Catherine graduated from St. Dominic Academy, has a BS in Chemistry from Caldwell University and her Masters in Chemistry from Marquette University. Sister had additional course study in Radiation Source from Rutgers University, Quantum Physics from Boston College, Computer Assisted Education from Amherst College, Electrochemistry from University of Dayton, Biochemistry from the University of Medicine & Dentistry and Financial Management for Nonprofits from Seton Hall University. Sr. Catherine taught at St. Mary School in Rutherford, St. Paul the Apostle in Irvington, Lacordaire in Upper Montclair, Link School in Newark and St. Brigid School in North Bergen. Sister was also an Associate Professor of Chemistry at Caldwell College, Curriculum Coordinator at the Research Foundation of CUNY, NYC, Project Director of Coalition Six in Newark, Project Manager at Holy Rosary Senior Residence in Hudson County and at Catholic Community Services she was the Division Director of the Pastoral & Social Ministry, Archdiocesan Director of the Catholic Campaign for Human Development and Housing Development Associate. Sr. Catherine was a member of the Regional Health Planning Committee for Newark & area, on the WISE Board of Directors of Essex County Community College, the Board of Trustees of Caldwell College, a member of the NJ Catholic Conference Social Concerns Advisory Board and the Caldwell Rent Ordinance Chair. Sister is survived by her Dominican Sisters, her siblings, Elizabeth Hagan Calabash & Ellen Innis, her devoted friend Eileen O'Connor and nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Sisters of St. Dominic, One Ryerson Avenue, Caldwell, NJ 07006 would be appreciated.
