Sr. Mary Lou Bauman OP Obituary (1947 - 2022)

Sister Mary Lou Bauman, OP, a Sister of St. Dominic of Caldwell for 46 years, entered into eternal life on August 27, 2022 at the age of 75, at St. Catherine of Siena Healthcare Center in Caldwell, NJ. On Wednesday, August 31, a wake and Mass will be held at Saint Aloysius Church, 219 Bloomfield Avenue, Caldwell, NJ. The wake will be from 9:15 to 10:00 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM. Burial services will follow the Mass at Gethsemane Cemetery on the Motherhouse grounds. Sister Mary Lou was a prayerful and compassionate woman who credited her parents, Andrew and Margaret (Bowe) for fostering her deep and abiding faith. Sister Mary Lou entered the Sisters of St. Dominic on September 7, 1976, received the Dominican habit on March 25, 1977, made first profession on March 1, 1979 and final profession on December 1, 1984. Sister was a graduate of St. Dominic Academy, Jersey City and earned her BA in English with a minor in History and Secondary Education from Caldwell University (formerly Caldwell College), an MA in English/Education as well as an MA in Student Personnel Service/ Guidance from New Jersey City University (formerly Jersey City State College), Jersey City, NJ. She also obtained certifications as Supervisor/Principal and Teacher of English. Prior to entering the community, Sister's professional life began at Queen of Peace High School, North Arlington, NJ, where she taught English. Her ministries as a Sister of Saint Dominic continued in the educational field, serving as a guidance counselor at St. Mary's High School, Rutherford, Union Catholic High School, Scotch Plains and Immaculate Conception High School, Montclair. Sister's administrative duties included Director of Student Personnel Services at Mt. St. Dominic Academy, Caldwell and Vice Principal/Director of Student Personnel Services at Lacordaire Academy, Upper Montclair. Sister Mary Lou's final twenty years in ministry were as Assistant Principal/Dean of Student Life/Chair of Guidance at her beloved Alma Mater, St. Dominic Academy. Sister also served on the Board of Trustees of Saint Dominic Academy and Caldwell University. With a gentle spirit, a smile and a love for life, Sister Mary Lou brought the message of God's never-ending love to all who came to know her. Sister Mary Lou was predeceased by her parents, Andrew J. and Margaret (Bowe) Bauman. She is survived by her brothers, Rev. John Bauman and Drew J. (Georgette Sullivan) Bauman; her niece, Moriah Bauman and her loving Sisters of St. Dominic.
