Marie Diane Marcopolus

–

Sussex, New Jersey

Mrs. Marie Diane Marcopolus, lovingly known as Marie, gently passed away on March 8, 2026 surrounded by her family.

Born in Elizabeth, NJ, Marie grew up in Cranford and graduated from Cranford High School. After marrying Theodore Marcopolus in 1982, the couple lived in Clark and Scotch Plains, before moving to Vernon Township in 1998.

Marie spent her life dedicated to serving others. One of her greatest joys was homeschooling her five children through high school, ensuring that they received a truly Catholic formation. She not only taught her own children, but also taught high school English at a private Catholic school in Connecticut for many years.

Many will remember the countless parties she hosted for family and friends at her home, often for 30, 40, or even 50 or more guests. Marie's home was a haven of love, laughter, and learning for her family. The memories created there will be treasured forever by those blessed enough to have been a part of her life.

Marie's love for her family was exceeded only by her love for Our Lord Jesus Christ and His Blessed Mother, as evidenced by such things as her devotion to the daily family Rosary and the placement of holy images throughout her home. She also had a deep devotion to St. Joseph throughout her life. Marie faithfully attended Holy Mass at St. Anthony of Padua Church in North Caldwell, NJ, which features exclusively the Traditional Latin Mass. Shortly before her death, Marie had the grace to receive the full Last Rites and the Apostolic Pardon of the Church from her long time confessor, Fr. Kevin Robinson.

Marie leaves behind a large, loving family: her father, Anthony LaFerrara; her devoted husband, Theodore Marcopolus; her sons Matthew Marcopolus (wife Johanna), Michael Marcopolus, and Joseph Marcopolus (wife Mary Agnes); her daughters Christina Stabinski (husband Adam) and Teresa Marcopolus; her grandchildren Gabriela, Camila, Leos, and Agatha Marcopolus; her brothers Michael and Salvatore LaFerrara; and her sisters Lorraine Harwelik and Donna Young. She was preceded in death by her beloved mother, Marie LaFerrara.

Visiting in the Prout Funeral Home, 370 Bloomfield Avenue, Verona, on Wednesday, March 11 from 4 to 8 pm. A Funeral Mass will be offered in St. Anthony of Padua Church, 103 Gould Avenue, North Caldwell on Thursday, March 12, at 11:00 am.

Memories, condolences and pictures can be uploaded to this obituary page.

In lieu of flowers, a donation in her memory to St. Anthony of Padua Church at 103 Gould Avenue, North Caldwell, NJ, 07006 would be greatly appreciated.
