Manasquan, New Jersey
John “Jack” Westerman Odell passed away on January 23, 2026. Born on September 30, 1945, Jack lived a life marked by kindness, quiet strength, and deep devotion to those around him.
For 55 years, Jack was married to the love of his life, Barbara. Their partnership was full of warmth, loyalty, and shared memories—built through everyday moments, family milestones, and the later years spent together in the place they loved most, Manasquan. Their three children and six grandchildren were his greatest joy.
Jack grew up in New Jersey and was a proud graduate of Bayley-Ellard High School and Seton Hall University, where he also became a member of the Delta Sigma Delta Fraternity. A lifelong Seton Hall basketball fan, he held season tickets from 1990 onward and treasured the game ball he twice received. Jack also was a member of the Verona Jaycees and Our Lady of the Lake Parish.
Soft-spoken and thoughtful, Jack lived a life of service to others. He ran his own accounting practice, John W. Odell CPA in South Orange, where clients trusted him not only for his expertise but for his genuine care. He also gave his time to the community, serving as President of the South Orange Rotary, Treasurer of the Verona Little League, Treasurer of the Maplewood Little Club, and Captain of the Verona Men’s Tennis Team. Earlier in life, he served in the National Guard at the West Orange Armory.
Jack had a number of passions that brought him joy. He loved fishing at the Manasquan Inlet, playing tennis, pickleball, and golf, and taking long bike rides—especially at the shore. He was also a devoted Yankees and Giants fan, cheering on his teams with steadfast loyalty.
Jack was predeceased by his parents, Helen Westerman Odell and William McKinley Odell, and his sister, Carol Howard.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara, their children Robin Bibbo (Matthew), John Odell, (Karin), and Brian Odell (Samantha), and his grandchildren—Jack, Sydney, William, Lexi, Ryland, and Logan—who adored him and will forever carry his gentle spirit in their hearts. He is also survived by his sister, Sharon (Dick) and brother, William (Arlene), as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Jack will be remembered for his kindness, humility, and the quiet way he made life better for the people around him. His absence will be deeply felt, but his love and example will continue to guide all who knew him.
Visitation will be held on Friday, January 30, 2026 from 3:00 - 7:00PM at Prout Funeral Home, 370 Bloomfield Avenue, Verona, NJ. A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, January 31, 2026 at 12:30PM at The Church of St. Denis, 90 Union Avenue, Manasquan, NJ.
