John D. Askling Sr.

Mr. John D. Askling, Sr. died on Tuesday, March 24, 2026 in Livingston, NJ. He was 82 years old.

Visiting will be held in the Prout Funeral Home, 370 Bloomfield Avenue, Verona on Saturday, March 28 from 12 noon to 3 pm.

John was born in Glen Ridge and was a lifelong Verona resident. He graduated from Verona High School in 1962 and served in the US Coast Guard from 1962 to 1966.

John was a partner in the old Verona Inn on Bloomfield Avenue in Verona for many years, prior to starting his own painting and home improvement company.

Surviving are his children, Barbara Bruso (Chris), John D. Askling, Jr (Tracy); his grandchildren, Justin Bruso (Gina), Jessica Bruso, Tyler Bruso, Haley Askling, John D. Askling, lll; and his great-grandson, Wade Bruso. He is also survived by his former spouse, Diana Sandin Askling.

He was predeceased by his daughter-in-law, Jolyne Askling and his partner of many years, Jane Sterling.
