Jacques C. Heurtelou

Mr. Jacques C. Heurtelou, 89, died peacefully on November 2, 2021 at the Forest Hill Healthcare Center in Newark, NJ.

Born on October, 11, 1932 in Port-au-Prince Haiti, of Antoine and Fredda Heurtelou (nee Jacques), Mr. Heurtelou immigrated to the United States in 1968 and lived in Brooklyn, New York until 1977. He resided in Maplewood for the past twenty years, before moving to Bloomfield in June 2021.

He worked as an Accountant in Haiti and then as an Electrical Technician in the hospitality industry, at The Commodore and the Barclay Hotels in New York City.

He was a devoted father who taught his children perseverance, hard work, and anyone he came in contact with the importance of education. He was a caring husband who embodied love and gentleness. He supported his wife in all her endeavors. He was affectionately called "Grandpa" by his grandchildren and extended family.

Mr. Heurtelou is survived by his wife, Altagracia Heurtelou (nee Pierre); children, Evens Heurtelou, Dan Heurtelou, Marie Berthe El Saieh, Frantz Hypolite, Joel Pierre, Chantal Foreste, Frantz Delsoin, Yvon Heurtelou and Phara Juste Revue; and grandchildren, Natacha Morales, Nassim El Saieh, Nastassia Heurtelou, Doralese Heurtelou, Ian Heurtelou, Doriane Heurtelou, Edwin Heurtelou, Patrick Foreste, Philippe Foreste, Monique-Hannah Foreste-Grabow, Stephanie Desir, Melissa Delsoin and Naomi Delsoin. He is also survived by his sisters, Marie Therese Merisier and Rosemarie Celestin.

He will be missed by a host of cousins, nieces and nephews, and in-laws.

Visiting will be held in the Prout Funeral Home, 370 Bloomfield Avenue, Verona NJ on Saturday, November 13 from 9 to 10:45 am, with a Prayer Service beginning at 10:45 am. Interment will follow at the Hanover Cemetery, Hanover Road, East Hanover.
