Gene L. Thompson

Mr. Gene L. Thompson died on April 19, 2018 at his home in Jersey City, NJ. He was 77 years old.

Services will be held in the Calvary/St. George Episcopal Church, 277 Park Avenue South at East 21st Street, New York City on Saturday, May 6 at 2 pm. Immediately following the service there will be a reception in Anderson Hall at the Church from 3 to 6 pm.

Natural Burial will take place Tuesday, May 8 at 2 pm in the Purissima Cemetery, Half Moon Bay, CA where his love of the beauty of the earth will be highlighted. After the burial services everyone will be invited to share memories and a meal.

Born in East Oakland, CA, Gene grew up in Hayward, CA and lived in New York City prior to moving to Jersey City, NJ.

He graduated from Hayward High School, has a BS from the College of Arts & Crafts in Oakland, CA and a Masters from Cranbrook Academy of Art in Bloomfield Hills, MI. For a number of years, he taught at Fresno State University in the Art and Sculpture Department.

His life and career focused on Art, Sculpture, Fine Art moving and handling, and writing. He was an intense spiritual seeker, primarily within the Christian tradition. He was an Eagle Scout and an early founder of Earth Day.

Gene is survived by his sister, Nancy M. Thompson, of San Francisco, CA his nephew, Michael Fitzgerald, of Monterey, CA and many friends. He was predeceased by his parents, James and Virginia Thompson of Hayward, California, and his sister, Bonnie Marie Thompson Fitzgerald, of Hilo, Hawaii.
