Verona, New Jersey
Elizabeth Mary (Clarke) Clauberg passed away on October 25, 2026 at her home in Verona, NJ. She was born in Orange and raised in Bloomfield. As the eldest of five children and the only sister among four younger brothers, she learned early how to hold her own. Growing up near a brook and a golf course she was a tomboy at heart and never afraid to join in her brothers' adventures. She spent childhood filled with family, friendship and laughter.
Elizabeth graduated from Bloomfield High School where she was a twirler. After graduation she worked as a secretary before dedicating herself to raising her family.
She met her future husband, Alan on a blind date arranged by friends. Together they built a life centered on family, raising their two daughters, Kathleen and Jennifer. They created a home that would become the gathering place for generations. Following the death of her father, Elizabeth and Alan welcomed her mother into their home and cared for her throughout her later years. After Alan's passing in 1994, Elizabeth remained the person her family could count on, while her mother continued to live with her until her passing in 1996.
The home Elizabeth created was a place where family gathered, children grew up and loved ones cared for one another. Jennifer continued living at home and later her husband, Jimmy joined the family home. Together they raised their three children there, adding another generation of memories to a home filled with love and support. Caring for family was not simply something Elizabeth did; it was who she was.
Independent by nature and blessed with a quick wit, she approached life with honesty, practicality and common sense. Honest to a fault, she was someone people trusted. Family and friends naturally turned to her when they needed someone to talk things through with, knowing she would listen carefully, tell the truth and help them see a situation more clearly. She was a loyal friend and a steady source of support for those she loved.
In her later years, Elizabeth faced health challenges with determination. With the loving care of her daughter, Jennifer she was able to remain in the home she cherished, surrounded by family and familiar comforts.
She was predeceased by her husband, Alan Clauberg; her parents, Bernard and Helen Clarke; and her brothers, Philip Clarke, Brian Clarke, Patrick Clarke and George Clarke.
Elizabeth is survived by her daughters, Kathleen Connolly and her husband, Tom and Jennifer Coppola and her husband, Jimmy; and her grandchildren, Christopher Connolly, Casey Connolly Spetz, Emily Coppola, Tyler Coppola and Mackenzie Coppola.
She will be remembered for her independence, honesty and unwavering devotion to those she loved. More than anything, she will be remembered as the heart of her family - a woman whose love, strength and dependability shaped the lives of generations. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.
A Funeral Mass will be offered on Saturday, November 28, 2026 at 10:00 am in Our Lady of the Lake Church, 28 Lakeside Avenue, Verona. Inurnment will follow in Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Montclair, NJ.
