North Caldwell, New Jersey
Carol (nee Paulukiewicz) Scagnelli, 75, of North Caldwell, NJ, entered into eternal rest on September 7, 2025. Born on March 11, 1950, Carol lived a life of love, creativity, devotion and faith.
She was the beloved wife of the late Paul Scagnelli. Together, Carol and Paul shared a deep bond built over five decades of marriage. In their younger years they found joy in visiting national and state parks and throughout their lives they shared a devotion to scouting, encouraging leadership, community and service in countless young people. They also opened their home to elderly rescue dogs, giving them comfort and love in their final years.
Carol dedicated herself to many roles throughout her life: first and foremost a loving homemaker, but also a skilled secretary, a teacher, and a tireless volunteer. In every role she took on Carol gave her full heart, making a difference in the lives of those she served with kindness, patience, and care.
Her hands were rarely still—she poured her creativity into crochet, knitting, quilting and photography. The hats, quilts, prayer shawls and other handmade gifts she created became treasured keepsakes for family and friends, each piece stitched with care and love. With her camera, she captured the beauty of life’s little moments, teaching others to pause and notice the world around them.
She took great pride in her Polish heritage, cherishing its traditions and sharing them with her family. Her Catholic faith was her foundation, guiding her throughout her life and sustaining her with strength and hope. She was a woman of deep sweetness, generosity, and faith—qualities that touched everyone she met. Her compassion and generosity touched everyone who had the blessing of knowing her.
Carol is survived by her children, Elizabeth Morey (Karl Fite) and Andrew Scagnelli-Townley (Melody Scagnelli-Townley); her adored grandchildren, Jacob, Eamon and Cassandra; her sister, Patricia Valitutto (Edward Valitutto); her brother, Robert Paulukiewicz; her sister-in-law, Janet Scagnelli; and her nieces and nephew, Andrea, Lisa, Tori and EJ.
A Funeral Mass celebrating Carol’s life will be held on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at 9:30 am in St. Aloysius Church, 219 Bloomfield Avenue, Caldwell, NJ.
The Mass will also be livestreamed at:

Carol’s legacy is one of love, faith, and creativity. She will be deeply missed but forever remembered in the hearts of her family, friends, and all those whose lives she touched.
