Arthur D. Smith

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Arthur D. Smith, a father, grandfather, and valiant veteran, on February 7, 2024. A native of Newark, NJ, he born on July 29, 1943.

Graveside Prayers with Military Honors will be held in Section 44 of the Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 225 Ridgedale Avenue, East Hanover NJ on Friday, February 23 at 12:30 pm

Arthur grew up in Verona and graduated from Verona High School in 1964. He bravely served in the U.S. Army, 101st Airborne, 82nd Division, during the Vietnam War. His courage and commitment to his country were recognized with a prestigious Purple Heart award, a testament to his bravery and dedication. Arthur's life was not only marked by his military service but also by his successful career as a Sales Representative in the Commercial Paper industry.

Upon retirement, he moved from Rutherford, New Jersey, to the serene surroundings of Point Pleasant Beach, New Jersey, a place he proudly called home.

Arthur enjoyed golfing and attending live sporting events with friends and family.

Arthur is survived by his sister Anne Costello, daughters Stacy Tancredi and Kelly Tancredi, and their spouses Timothy and David. He was the grandfather of Taylor, Matthew, Chelsea, and Thomas Tancredi. Arthur is preceded in death by his father John Smith, mother Mary Smith, sister Patricia Smith, and brothers Robert and John Smith.
