Verona, New Jersey
Mr. Angelo J. Pomarico died peacefully, surrounded by family and friends on Friday, November 14th, 2025. He was 76 years old.
Visiting will be in the Prout Funeral Home, 370 Bloomfield Avenue, Verona, NJ on Wednesday, November 19th from 3 to 7pm. A Funeral Mass will be offered in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 94 Pine Street, Montclair, NJ on Thursday, November 20th at 10am, with burial to follow in Immaculate Conception Cemetery.
Born and raised in Montclair, NJ, Angelo graduated from Montclair High School in 1966 and Bloomfield College in 1970 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business. He remained a lifelong fan of Montclair Football. He and Carol met in 1970, bought their home and moved to Verona in 1975, raised their sons, and have remained ever since.
Angelo began his career in office equipment sales with A.R. Meeker Company in Springfield, NJ for 12 years and then went on to work at other copier companies throughout his 40-year career. After his retirement, he took on numerous jobs such as Security at the Rutgers Football Games and at Prudential Center (Sports & Concerts); working at CVS; helping out at Caggiano Memorial Home in Montclair and as a funeral director's assistant at the Prout Funeral Home in Verona.
He loved to travel, especially overseas to Italy to celebrate his Italian heritage of which he was so proud of. And then for over 25 years there was the annual Summer road trip to Disney World with family and his closest friends. Visiting Wineries around the Tri-State area held special meaning, as well.
Angelo had fun conducting a hands on Limoncello making course for the Caldwell-West Caldwell Adult Education Program and was well known for his own homemade wine.
Angelo enjoyed the Verona Pool, where he always challenged himself to show up every day that the Pool was open, even if for only one lap, cloudy or cool.
In his spare time Angelo could be found gardening, watching the New York Yankees, making Friday night homemade pizza and gravy for Sunday dinner. He loved listening to music, watching old time movies, collecting Yankee memorabilia and as he would say, just “tinkering” around. But most of all, he loved being with family and friends.
Angelo was a longtime member and Treasurer of the St. Sebastian Society at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church and was in charge of the Beer & Wine Garden for the Annual Feast in August. His past organizations included the Montclair Unico, Verona Board of Adjustment and Verona Baseball League.
He was predeceased by his parents, Angelo Carmen Pomarico and Spranza (nee Leva) Pomarico, and his brothers-in-law, John DiNapoli, Matthew Monetti, and Stan Philip.
Angelo is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Carol (nee Philip) Pomarico; his adored sons, Angelo Jason (AJ) Pomarico and Marc B. Pomarico; his loving sisters, Theresa Monetti and Angela DiNapoli; AJ’s companion of 25 years, Hazel Halleran; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many lifelong friends.
In lieu of flowers, a donation in his name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis TN 38105 (https://www.stjude.org/) would be appreciated.
