Veteran Services

There are few greater honors for us at Prout Funeral Home then helping the families of a veteran pay tribute to the sacrifices and contributions of their loved one. For honorably discharged veterans, we can help arrange for funerals with full military honors, U.S. burial flags, custom military headstones, custom prayer cards, and more. We can also help coordinate burial in a national or state cemetery.

See the link below to our local state cemetery that is close by and open to eligible New Jersey Veterans.

Our expert staff will also work closely with the family to make sure they receive any benefits and financial contributions for which they qualify.

Funerals

Since the beginning of time, ritual and ceremony have been central to the human spirit. We mark the birth of a child, a graduation or marriage, just to name a few, with some form of ceremony or celebration – sharing the good fortune of the event with loved ones.
At the time of death it is even more important to gather together, not necessarily to share, but to receive the support of family and loved ones. We need to know that at this terrible time of trauma, we are not alone; that there are others walking the journey with us.

We understand how difficult it can be to plan a funeral for a loved one, however we also believe it is a unique opportunity to tell the story of a life well lived and offer closure for family and friends. While the funeral is of the dead, the service must fulfill the needs of the survivors.

Whether your choice is traditional burial, green burial, entombment or cremation, our many options will help you create a service that is unique and meaningful. Simple or elaborate, traditional or unconventional – we can make sure the farewell captures your loved one’s interests, accomplishments, and values. You may choose to have the service or visitation at our funeral home, or we can help you arrange a service at your place of worship or other location.

Our expert staff will be there with you every step of the way, providing care and attending to all the details so that you can focus on your loved ones and your own grief process.

Cremation

Cremation or Ritual?

Some folks believe that if you choose cremation, you cannot have visiting or a ceremony, when just the opposite is true. Cremation does not limit choices, but, in fact, increases one’s options. It is a process which is performed in a respectful and dignified manner and can be memorialized in many ways.

Cremation as a choice neither eliminates nor does it require a funeral service. A traditional visiting followed by a religious service & cremation may be just the ritual needed by one family, while a direct cremation followed by a contemporary celebrant service or memorial service may be more spiritually fulfilling for another. They can be elaborate or simple / traditional or nontraditional. Ritual and ceremony should be as individual as the persons for whom and by whom they are made.

Depending on your preference,  know with Prout Funeral Home, the service we create together will be incredibly meaningful whether it is a full memorial service or visitation prior to cremation. With the special touches we can add to any memorial your loved one’s tribute will be poignant and personal.

Just as with every step of the cremation process, you have several options to consider about a final resting place. We will be here to help you determine whether bringing them home in an Urn, scattering in a meaningful location or burial is the best choice for you and your family. Some cemeteries will allow you to bury them in an existing family plot, even if the plot is full.

Burial

There are many things to consider when deciding if burial is right for either you or your family, whether it is at the time of death or if you are pre-planning a funeral. One of the first decisions you’ll need to make involves choosing both the cemetery and the specific grave location within its grounds. Some people prefer a Memorial Park type of setting, where all the markers are set flat with the ground, others prefer a Traditional Cemetery with upright monuments. We will arrange to pick you up and take a tour of local cemeteries to find which one would be most comforting to you. You’ll then need to select a casket and possibly a burial vault, as many modern cemeteries require their use. At some point, and this does not have to take place right away, the decision becomes one of selecting the headstone or marker and writing the inscription. A member of our professional staff will be available should you wish to have assistance in making each of these decisions.

With our years of experience, we can help you choose the ritual, ceremony, and resting place that expresses your values, lifestyle, and fits your budget. We invite you to come to our office where we will help you craft a service that truly expresses the story of your loved one’s life.  If green or natural burial is best for you, know that Prout Funeral Home is the premier provider of Greener Funerals in Northern New Jersey.
